Mohali (Punjab) : The entire air-conditioned lounge of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium was gutted in a fire here Saturday afternoon.
No loss of life or injury was reported even though the lounge, located on the fourth floor of the stadium, was completely burnt.
The lounge was under renovation and welding work was being undertaken. The plywood wall lining quickly caught fire as the flames engulfed the lounge within minutes.
Seven fire tenders, including four from Chandigarh, fought the flames for nearly an hour before the fire was controlled.
“The hall has been badly burnt,” one fireman said after assessing the damage.
“We had already removed most of the equipment from inside as the lounge was being renovated. The physical loss, as such, was not much,” PCA chief executive officer G.S. Sandhu said.
