‘Preparations for 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games impress PM’

New Delhi : The preparations for the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Pune have impressed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Suresh Kalmadi Saturday.

Kalmadi, who made the presentation for Manmohan Singh in Pune, said he was highly impressed by the efforts of the organising committee of the games.

“This morning both of us were in Pune, where I made a power point presentation to the prime minister,” Kalmadi told IANS on his return to the city.

“He was impressed by the preparations that we are doing for the games,” he said while attending the annual general body meeting of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

Kalmadi is the life president of the AFI.

The third edition of the games, which will be held from Oct 12-18, are seen as trial games for the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi.

It will be the first time in the history of the youth games that all 71 Commonwealth countries will take part. Over 2,000 athletes and officials will land in Pune for nine sports competition.
