4th Lt. Governor’s Invitational football starts Tuesday

New Delhi : A total of 20 teams will take part in 4th Lt. Governor’s Invitational DDA Football Tournament starting here Tuesday. The tournament carries a total prize purse of Rs.4,20,000, with the winner receiving Rs.2,00,000.

The competing teams will include 10 non-national league sides, four top local teams and six outstation outfits, the organisers announced here Sunday. The teams invited from other states are Punjab Police from Jalandhar; Oil and Natural Gas Corporation of Mumbai; Peerless Sports Club from Kolkata; Border Security Force from Jalandhar; Srinagar’s Jammu & Kashmir Bank Football Club; and State Bank of Travancore, Sports Board, of Thiruvananthapuram.

The tournament will be conducted on a league basis till the quarterfinals and on knockout basis semi-final onwards. DDA vice-chairman Dinesh Rai will open the tournament at 12 noon Tuesday.

The final will be played at the Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi Feb 25.

The losing finalist will receive Rs.100,000 and the two semi-finalists will get Rs.50,000 each. Four best players of the tournament will receive Rs. 5,000 each, said the organisers.
