Pune : The media always highlights negative news about the armed forces such as MiG crashes and ignores the positive developments, military officers complained at an interaction with journalists here.
“The media always hypes negative news about the armed forces but somehow the positive news, developments such as our exchange programmes with other countries, are never much highlighted,” an air force officer told the national convention of the Network of Women in Media, India, (NWMI).
The talk on media and its role in insurgency and democracy was held Saturday. The seminar ended Sunday.
The convention is aimed at bringing together women journalists working on various issues such as human rights and social justice, from across the country but also from outside. This was the sixth meet of its kind.
On the first day, IANS journalist Azera Rahman was given the Anupama Jayaraman Memorial Award instituted by the organisation to encourage and honour young women journalists who work on issues of human rights and social justice.
Azera got the award in recognition of her effort to highlight the plight of urban poor, especially women living in slums and young children working in zari units in Delhi.
