New Delhi : Defence Minister A.K. Antony will witness a flight demonstration of the indigenously developed Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA) during a day-long visit to the research laboratories of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Bangalore Tuesday.
Antony will be visiting the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Electronic and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE).
At the ADA, Antony will hold discussions with senior officials and is expected to examine its system design and evaluation facility and its weapons rig, a defence ministry statement Monday said.
A visit to the Kaveri engine assembly bay, that is designed to power production models of LCA, and test house at GTRE and display of radars at LRDE, as well as an exhibition on the activities of ADE have been lined up for the defence minister.
Established in 1959, GTRE achieved considerable success last year with the Kaveri engine at the bench tests, the statement said, adding that about 1,700 hours of test hours have been accumulated so far on 11 prototypes of the engine.
During the current year, the GTRE has planned altitude testing and flying test bed trials of the Kaveri in Russia before flight trials on the Tejas.
LRDE addresses the needs of the three services in the fields of radars, communication systems and related technologies. The laboratory has on its hand two major active phased array radar projects: an airborne platform for early warning, surveillance and control (AEW&C); and medium power radar with a 300 km range.
