Mumbai : Dwarikesh Sugar Industries Ltd has started producing electricity from biomass at its plant in Fardipur in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. The company will supply more than 24 MW of green power to Uttar Pradesh Power Corp Ltd (UPPCL).
Announcing the start of the project Monday to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the company said the cogeneration plant was launched Saturday.
The plant was registered with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change for generation of carbon emission reduction (CER) units, which the company would be able to sell, the statement said.
Power purchase agreements (PPA) have already been inked with UPPCL for supply of power from these units for the next 20 years, the company said.
Dwarikesh Sugar Industries had announced Feb 3 that the company’s Dwarikesh Puram plant at Afzalgarh in Bijnore district of Uttar Pradesh was synchronised with UPPCL’s grid for 20 MW in the first phase.
The company is now equipped to export 56 MW of green power besides meeting its captive requirements.
According to Dwarikesh Sugar Industries’ Chief Financial Officer Vijay Banka, these projects totalling an investment over Rs.2.25 billion would help in optimising use of by-products.
The company now had a facility to crush 21,500 metric tonnes of sugarcane every day, export 56 MW of power every hour and produce and sell 30 kilolitres of ethanol and industrial alcohol everyday, Banka said.
