Perth : Australian speedster Stuart Clark has dismissed Indian players’ comments that the world champions were “scared” of being beaten.
“I find that pretty much laughable, to be fair. We are going through a stage where India are playing good cricket and our guys are really excited and really keen to show everyone that we are still the best team in the world,” Clark was quoted as saying by The Australian newspaper Tuesday.
“They can think whatever they want I suppose. They’ve made bold statements for a little while now. I had a good bit of a laugh about it. On any day, if we are not on our game, any team can beat us.”
Indian opener Virender Sehwag, in particular, had been suggesting of late that Australia has been winning so easily and so well in recent years that they are afraid of being challenged.
India registered their first One-Day International (ODI) win in 22 years at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) when they beat Australia by five wickets in the Commonwealth Bank Series Sunday.
However Clark claimed that the loss was hardly a sign of a seismic shift in world domination.
“I keep reading certain members of their team saying we are scared and things like that,” Clark said after arriving in Perth to prepare for Friday night’s match against Sri Lanka.
