Islamabad : More than five persons were killed and seven others including a former lawmaker sustained injured in a bombv explosion in northern Pakistan on Wednesday, said police.
A remote-controlled bomb exploded in the election rally of six-party religious alliance, Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) in Charr Bagh area of lush-green northern Sawat valley, police sources told KUNA.
They said the explosion killed more than five persons on the spot and wounded seven others including a former Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA), Mufti Hussain Ahmed. They added that four of the wounded were in critical condition.
Another source said the explosion killed at least 11 persons and Mufti Hussain Ahmed was in critical condition.
This was the fourth explosion that has hit an election rally in northern Pakistan killing more than two dozen people including an election candidate.
It may be mentioned here that security forces are conducting operation against local Taliban-linked militants since last three months. The operation has killed more than 100 militants and arrested several others including top wanted local commanders.
