Jharkhand municipal polls being held after 20 years

Ranchi : The Jharkhand government has announced that elections to the urban municipal committees will be held March 25 after a gap of two decades.

The last urban municipal elections were held in 1982 when Jharkhand was part of undivided Bihar.

D.K. Saxena, special secretary of cabinet secretariat, said: “The notification of elections will be issued on Feb 20. The last date to withdraw the names is Feb 28 and elections will take place on March 25. And the counting will take place on March 27.”

The elections will be held for 55 wards of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), 11 nagar parishads and 16 nagar panchayats.

Of the 55 RMC wards, 19 have been reserved for women, eight each for Other Backward Castes (OBC) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and two for Schedule Castes (SC) candidates.
