Bhubaneswar : The 27-day budget session of the Orissa legislative assembly began Wednesday amid a boycott by opposition parties led by the Congress.
The opposition parties boycotted the house and staged a walkout soon after Governor M.C. Bhandare started reading his speech highlighting the government’s achievements. However, they returned to the house after the end of the governor’s address.
“The government has failed to maintain law and order. The number of crimes and incidents of corruption have gone up,” Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik said. “That is why we boycotted the governor’s address.”
The opposition parties have lost ground due to various welfare activities and steps taken by the government, said secretary general of the ruling Biju Janata Dal, Damodar Rout. The boycott by them was unjustified, he said.
