Beirut : Hezbullah confirmed the death of Emad Meghneyeh in a car explosion in Damascus, accusing Israel of assassinating the military official.
In a press release on Wednesday, Hezbullah said Israel was behind Meghneyeh’s death, but no details about the circumstances and place of the alleged assassination were revealed.
Hezbullah stressed Meghneyeh had played a critical role in fighting Israel for over 20 years.
Hezbullah vowed to continue its strife until victory is realized.
Meanwhile, Israeli Army forces increased on Thursday the state of alert along the Israeli-Lebanese borders.
“Increasing the level of alert came as a precaution against any military operation that might be carried out by Hezbullah, as well as preventing the abduction of Israeli soldiers,” army spokesman told Israeli radio.
He pointed out that this measure was taken after the assassination of Meghneyeh Wednesday.
