Islamabad : Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf Saturday hoped that the country will have a stable, democratically elected government that will ensure success in the war against extremism and terrorism and sustain economic growth.

His comments at the launching ceremony of the multi-million dollar Karakaram Highway project came as the country faced a severe economic crisis along with excessive power and wheat shortages.

“I am very positive that this will be free, fair, transparent and peaceful. It has to be that way,” said the president.

He expressing hope of a stable government, saying, “We will have a stable, democratically elected government. We will ensure successful fight against terrorism and extremism and we will ensure sustaining the economic growth of Pakistan.” Karakoram Highway (KKH), built along the historic Silk Route, will serve as a trade corridor not only with China, but also through it to the Central Asian Republics, while providing Pakistan access to the Arabian Sea.

The president recalled his meeting with President Hu Jintao in which he had proposed to add a rail link, an oil pipeline and fiber optic cable to the KKH to make it the ninth wonder of the world.
