New Delhi : Indian Information Technology (IT) companies intending to expand their outsourcing activities continue to consider Malaysia as an attractive cost-effective destination in the region.
Backed by good infrastructure and a vast pool of skilled labour, Malaysia remains an attractive location in Southeast Asia for cost-conscious Indian IT companies that want cheaper outsourcing centres to counter the strengthening Indian Rupee and expensive labour cost.
“Malaysia has a well-developed infrastructure and has demonstrated good technical skill-sets that are required in certain back office work such as solving computer-related problems,” Malaysia’s Multimedia Development Corporation’s (MSC) corporate services division vice president Jagdish Singh Dhaliwal said in Mumbai.
The Hindustan Times quoted him saying that Malaysia with its reputation as a specialised manufacturing hub and with 50,000 graduates entering the workforce yearly made it an ideal location for Indian companies to service their clients.
India’s leading global consulting and IT service provider, Satyam Computer Service had established its base in Cyberjaya, Malaysia’s IT corridor in 2006 and last year the company’s 500-seat Global Solutions Centre was fully established.
The paper also reported that other IT leaders such as TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) and Wipro that had established marketing offices in Malaysia are now keen in setting up development centres as part of their expansion efforts.
Besides, software giant Infosys is also considering establishing a development centre in Cyberjaya, added the paper. As of 2006, there were 55 Indian IT companies operating in MSC Malaysia with investments to the tune of RM80 million (US$25 million).
