Wellington : Three people were killed when a light plane and a helicopter collided in mid air over a suburb of the New Zealand capital Sunday, local media said.
The instructor and a trainee in the helicopter died on the spot while the pilot of the light plane succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
A police spokesman said that the collision occurred at about 11:15 a.m. The helicopter crashed through the roof of a building and two men in the helicopter died in the collision.
No customers or staff in the store were injured, according to the New Zealand Press Association (NZPA).
The helicopter was on a training flight.
The light plane landed on a nearby street, narrowly missing a house.
The building on which the helicopter crashed is about 200 meters from the runway at Paraparaumu Airport.
