Brussels : The European Union repeated calls on Pakistani authorities to ensure that Monday’s parliamentary elections are free and fair.
“As always we want to see the elections to be free and fair. This is the clear message that we have all given to President Musharraf,” EU Commissioner for external relations, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, told journalists here today.
She, however, said that there were “some deficiencies” during the pre-election period noting that a supreme court judge has been ousted and that judges have been jailed.
“This is certainly not good. On the other side I think there have been improvements” Ferrero-Waldner added referring to the participation of the three major parties of Pakistan in the elections.
