Tbilisi : A Georgian government delegation will arrive in Moscow on Monday to hold two-day talks on a possible resumption of direct air flights between Georgia and Russia.

“Our delegation, led by Deputy Economy Minister Vakhtang Lezhava, will hold the first round of negotiations in Moscow,” Georgian Prime Minister Vladimir Gurgenidze said on Monday

He also added that the Georgian side was ‘optimistic’ about Monday’s meeting.

Gurgenidze also added that, “The issue might not be resolved in the first round of negotiations – work will be needed to reach a breakthrough.”

Moscow imposed a transportation and postal blockade on Georgia in October 2007, apparently in retaliation for the detention of four Russian army officers on espionage charges.

Russian officials cited commercial reasons, however, saying that Georgian airlines owed Moscow more than $3 million for air traffic services. Tbilisi claimed that the move was politically motivated.
