Hyderabad : An extra-time golden goal by Birendra Lakra powered defending champions Steel Authority of India (SAIL) to a 4-3 win against Chandigarh Academy in the final of the 4th junior boys (under-18) National Hockey Championship here Monday.
In a close match that swung from end to end, Jerome Lakra, Wilson Minz and Amardeep Ekka scored for SAIL while Chandigarh Academy replied through Harvinder Singh, Harmandeep Singh and Davinder Singh during the regulation period.
With the teams locked 3-3, the extra-time was enforced and Birendra, who had scored all the five goals in his team’s 5-1 win against Bihar in the semi-finals Sunday, again did the star turn as he struck the golden goal.
Earlier, in the match for third and fourth places, Bihar edged out Andhra 2-1 with Deva Aind and Binay Bhengra scoring for the former and Ramesh Krishnan netting for the latter.
