New Delhi : Sher Singh Rana, the alleged killer of parliament member and former ‘Bandit Queen’ Phoolan Devi, Tuesday sought the transfer of his trial to another city court, saying he did not have faith in the judge hearing the case.
“I do not have faith in you. Kindly transfer the case to any other court,” Rana said in the court of Additional Sessions Judge V.K. Bansal.
He moved an application for the same through his counsel D.B. Goswami.
The court, taking into account Rana’s submission, forwarded his plea to judge Mamta Sehgal, who is judge in-charge of the Patiala House Court, for its consideration.
Rana’s submission came when the court was about to record a statement of prosecution witness Bahadur Shah. Shah was presented by the prosecution as the key witness as Rana had allegedly fled in his auto-rickshaw after committing the crime.
Rana had shot dead Phoolan Devi, who was then a Samajwadi Party MP, outside her 44, Ashoka Road residence in New Delhi July 25, 2001.
According to the prosecution, Rana along with 11 others had conspired to kill Phoolan Devi to avenge the 1981 massacre in Behmai of 20 upper caste villagers for which she had been blamed.
