Dubai : Anil Kumble is the lone Indian to make the cut among the 10 ten bowlers in the LG ICC Test Player rankings while no batsmen from the famed batting line could make it to top 10.
The 37-year-old Indian Test captain is ranked sixth in the bowlers’ rankings while Indian spearhead Zaheer Khan is listed 13. Irfan Pathan is ranked 18.
Among the batsmen, while Sachin Tendulkar has been placed at number 12, Rahul Dravid is at 15.
Sri Lankan duo of Kumar Sangakkara and Muttiah Muralitharan top the LG ICC Test Player rankings. South Africa’s Jacques Kallis is placed second behind Sangakarra in the batsmen ranking while his teammate Dale Steyn is ranked second in the bowler’s rankings.
Although the 32-year-old South African is just 16 ratings points behind Sangakarra, he will have to score heavily in the two-Test series against Bangladesh starting Feb 22 if he is to reclaim the top slot.
In the bowler’s rankings, Steyn can displace Muralitharan from top spot for the first time in nearly two years but will have to collect a bagful of Bangladesh wickets in the Dhaka and Chittagong Tests.
On the other hand, if Steyn fails to repeat the form, which has seen him collect 83 wickets in his last 15 Tests, he could fall below Australia new ball pair of Stuart Clark and Brett Lee.
In the LG ICC Player Rankings for Test all-rounders, Kallis continues to lead the field by a comfortable margin and is the only player from either side in the top 10.
