Islamabad : Pakistan’s Election Commission said on Thursday that independent members-elect for the national and provincial assemblies can join any political party within three days after the issuance of official notifications of their success.
According to the Election Commission, a total of 27 National Assembly and 67 provincial candidates won election as independent.
Elaborating on the procedure of joining parties, Secretary of Election Commission Kanwar Ahmad Dilshad said that according to the rules, candidates, who have won elections as independent candidates and are desirous to join a political party, will submit an application to party chiefs.
The party chiefs are bound to formally inform the Election Commission, through a letter, about the joining of members of the national and provincial assemblies.
He said that after finalizing all phases the distribution of reserved seats of women and minorities in the national and provincial assemblies will be decided on the number of seats.
Meanwhile Akhunzada Chitan, a member-elect of the National Assembly from tribal region, joined Pakistan People’s Party.
