Buenos Aires : At least four people have been killed after a rainstorm hit the northern Argentine province of Jujuy, Spain’s EFE news agency reported Thursday.
Jujuy police found Wednesday the bodies of two of the four children of a family, who disappeared Monday morning after their home was swept away by the rising waters of the Xibi-Xibi River.
More than 1,000 people were evacuated from the deluge Wednesday. The rivers and streams in the neighbouring Tucuman and Salta provinces were overflowing after the storm.
Firefighters and civil defence personnel continued their search for the two other missing children. The authorities rescued the parents and their seven-year-old sister.
The police said two more people were killed in the storm. One was electrocuted and the other drowned in the provincial capital of San Salvador de Jujuy.
“The government is providing support to people to deal with the calamity,” Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo said.
