Agartala : The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Front as well as the main opposition Congress-led alliance are optimistic of forming the next government in Tripura after a large turnout in Saturday’s polling.
“We shall win more than 41 seats in the 60-member house and our vote share would increase substantially,” said Gautam Das, CPI-M spokesman.
He, however, blamed the Election Commission for “conducting the polling in a sluggish manner and high handedness of a section of central paramilitary forces”.
The CPI-M leader said few thousands of voters were forced to return home after waiting several hours to cast votes.
“A section of paramilitary forces disallowed some voters and CPI-M candidates from entering polling stations while in some places electronic voting machines (EVMs) were tempered with,” Das added.
Accusing the Left parties of intimidating voters and workers, Congress said it was hopeful of victory.
“The Congress-Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT)-Party for Democratic Socialism (PDS) alliance in Tripura will form the next government,” said Prithviraj Chavan, Congress observer for Tripura and central minister.
