Pune : Social activist and Pune-based lawyer Aseem Sarode said he would file a public interest litigation (PIL) with the Supreme Court against alleged human rights violation by the Pune police after two suspects in a snatching case complained of severe torture.
According to reports, Ajay Pardeshi and Rakesh Purohit, booked for snatching the purse of former Miss India Amrita Thapar while she was travelling in an auto rickshaw here, were brutally tortured in the Wanowrie police station.
The police officials reportedly injected petrol into their anus and forced them to drink urine during interrogation.
The government-run Sassoon hospital Thursday, after a medical examination, corroborated the charges the two undertrials made to the judicial magistrate.
“For the first time in Pune such a gruesome incident is happening. This police action clearly results in human rights violation and needs to be looked into by the courts seriously,” said Sarode.
A petition will be sent to the Supreme Court Monday requesting the apex court to order protection of the undertrials.
“The apex court decided early February to fix criteria for human rights violation and this police act clearly comes under it,” said Sarode.
“We are looking into the matter,” Rajendra Singh, additional police commissioner, told IANS.
