First meeting of Pakistan-India committee on prisoners to be held on Tuesday

New Delhi : The first meeting of Pak-India committee on Prisoners will be held here on Tuesday to discuss issues relating to release of civilian prisoners of both countries in each other’s jails.

Pakistani Chapter of the Committee consisting of retired judges including Justice ® Abdul Qadir Chaudhry, Justice ® Mian Ajmal and Justice ® Nasir Zahid will arrive here on Monday to meet their Indian counterparts.

During the meeting of Foreign Ministers of both the countries, held in January last year in Islamabad, it was decided to constitute a committee on prisoners comprising retired judges to visit jails in the two countries and propose steps to ensure humane treatment and expeditious release of prisoners.

From Indian side, Justice ® K.R Vyas, Justice ® Amarjit Chaudhry, Justice ® A.S Gill and Justice ® M.A Khan will attend the meeting.—
