Google replaces BBC as top brand in the UK

London, Feb 25, IRNA ,Internet giant Google has overtaken the BBC as the number one brand in the UK, according to a survey based on the views of 1,500 professionals and a council of business leaders.

Google, the only firm in the top 50 to have been established after 1990, also leapfrogged over Microsoft, which remained in second place, and British Airways (BA) and former state-owned BT communications.

The annual survey, conducted by research firm Superbrands, is intended to reflect the brands that have “established the finest reputations in their fields and make the most impact on the UK business sector.”
It shows the BBC dropping from first last year to fifth place. BA, the country’s national airline also falls from third to 8th, while BT plunges down from fourth to 48th. In the opposite direction, BP moves up from sixth to third.

In the media sector, the Financial Times (FT) was the best- performing in the list, based on quality, reliability and distinction, moving up from 18th to ninth place and overtaking Reuters, which also advanced from 15th to 13th.

Other media in the table included the Economic, which fell back from 33rd to 36th, the Guardian dropping from 81st to 182nd and the Daily Telegraph from 86th to 159th.
