True to the Met Office forecast, temperatures fell Monday by two to three degrees but it was not enough to ruffle the residents of the national capital.

The maximum temperature was around 26 degrees Celsius, down three notches from Sunday, while the minimum was around 11 degrees Celsius, down a good four degrees Celsius from the 15 degrees Celsius a day before.

Weatherman Sunday forecast that due to the strong presence of the northwesterly winds there could be a further fall in the day and night temperatures in the northern plains for the next 48 hours till Wednesday. Temperatures would rise gradually thereafter.

Northeastern parts could see rain or thundershowers in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim. Rain has been forecast for Orissa and West Bengal too.

A mild tremor shook the Kashmir Valley, causing panic among the residents here.

“A mild tremor was felt here at 12.55 p.m. We are working out the magnitude and other details of the quake,” G.R. Rather, meteorologist at the weather office, told IANS.

“No damage has so far been reported from anywhere,” he said.
