Kathmandu : Candidates representing Nepal’s major political parties Monday filed their nomination papers for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system for different constituencies in Kathmandu district.
First-past-the-post (or simple majority) is a system in which the candidate with the highest number of formal votes is elected. It is the commonest system of voting and vote counting used in a number of countries.
The Nepali Congress (NC), the largest political party in Nepal’s interim parliament, Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M), Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), Rastriya Prajatantra Party and others arrived at the election office in Kathmandu with their leaders to file the nomination papers till late afternoon Monday.
Among the leaders who filed their nominations were candidates of the CPN-UML led by the party’s general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, those of the CPN-M.
CPN-M chairman Prachanda is reportedly contesting from the constituency-10 for Kathmandu district, eKantipur website reported.
