Sydney : Australian spinner Brad Hogg announced his retirement from international cricket Wednesday.
The 37-year-old left-arm spinner featured in seven Tests including three against India this summer. But his major success was in the shorter version of the game, where he played 121 one-day internationals, taking 154 wickets.
Hogg will bring down the curtains on his career at the end of the ongoing tri-series against India and Sri Lanka but has left open the option of playing for Western Australia again next season. Hogg said that the factor in his decision was that his wife was due to give birth in May.
The spinner said that he had contemplated ending his career after Australia’s World Cup victory in the West Indies last year, but felt that Shane Warne’s retirement would gave him a chance to get back to the Test side after a long absence.
“My career started against India and I thought if I can play Test cricket against India that would be fantastic. I wanted to fight to get back in there and I did it and I achieved what I wanted to achieve,” said Hogg.
