New Delhi : There is no shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the country, though state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) have reported a supply backlog, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dinsha Patel said here Tuesday.
“OMCs supplied 8,450 thousand metric tonnes (TMT) of domestic LPG between April 2007 and January 2008 as compared to 8,030 TMT in the same period in the preceding financial year,” Patel said while replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha.
The minister blamed various unforeseen factors for the current backlog in supply of LPG to domestic consumers.
“State-run oil marketing companies reported backlog in LPG supplies in certain states in the country due to reduction in supply of bulk LPG by Reliance Industries Ltd and Essar Oil Ltd in January 2008,” Patel said.
He also attributed the backlog to factors like delay in transporting bulk LPG supply from Jamnagar in Gujarat to the northern region and panic booking.
