The blast occurred in Assams Tezpur town, news agency Indo Asian News Service reported, quoting a state a police official.

The bomb was placed on a bicycle and four of the six injured were in a critical condition and have been shifted to hospital, the official said.

Assam police held ULFA responsible for the explosion.

ULFA is waging an insurgency since 1979 to create a “sovereign Assam,” carved out of India.

India has said that most of ULFA’s top leadership is based in neighbouring Bangladesh and operates from there.

Leading US think tank Stratfor, in a report last year — India: ULFA Abandons Peace Talks — had said that ULFA was keen to work with groups like Bangladesh-based Harkt ul Jihadi Islami in India’s Northeast and has begun to outsource terror operations.
