Kozhikode (Kerala) : Three members of a family, including a woman, involved in a drug racket have been arrested in Kerala, the police said here Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as K.A. Chandran, his wife Kamarunnissa and their son-in-law Shabeer. The police said they had recovered 520 grams of brown sugar and 1.75 kg of marijuana from them.
Chandran was held during a raid on a house in the city suburb late Tuesday. It was from this house that the police recovered the brown sugar. The others were arrested from two different locations.
The police Wednesday said Chandran was sourcing the brown sugar from Mumbai and Rajasthan.
“Brown sugar is available at Bandra, Andheri and Dongri in Mumbai. The price is Rs.200,000 per kilogram. We mix it with chemicals and sell it in small packets to peddlers. The profit is double in this business,” Chandran told m,edia persons.
“The network of this racket extends much beyond this city. We were on the lookout for Chandran for the last one-and-a-half years. He jumped bail while he was on trial in another case,” said Assistant Police Commissioner C.N. Pradeepkumar.
