New Delhi : ESPN STAR Sports has acquired the broadcast rights of the WTA Bangalore Open, organised by the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA), till 2010.
ESPN STAR Sports will show 20 matches live from the Bangalore Open, which kick-starts March 3.
This edition of the tournament will feature some of the big names of women’s tennis like Venus Williams, Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic competing for the first time on Indian soil.
Apart from the Williams sisters, other renowned players like Patty Schnyder, Agnes Szavay, Maria Kirilenko and Vera Zvonareva will also take part in the $600,000 event, which has been upgraded to Tier II category this year.
“The level of tennis will be very high with confirmation from the three top-10 players. The icing on the cake has come with ESPN STAR Sports becoming the broadcast partners of WTA Bangalore Open,” said Tournament Director and KSLTA Secretary Sunder Raju.
The commentary panel for the Bangalore Open includes legendary tennis player Vijay Amritraj, Anand Amritraj and Louise Pleming.
