Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda too joined in the celebrations at the state Congress headquarters located in the upscale Sector 9 residential area here. They were particularly upbeat about the Rs.600 billion loan waiver and other benefits announced for over 40 million farmers across the country.

“This is a historic budget. The loan waiver for farmers is unprecedented. No government in independent India has done such a thing. No one could imagine getting such a budget. People are celebrating in the villages. Over 800,000 farmers will benefit in Haryana alone,” an excited Hooda said.

The Congress leaders danced the ‘bhangra’ to the beat of drums and burst crackers as Finance Minister P. Chidambaram announced concessions for farmers, the salaried class and others. Sweets were also distributed to all those present on the occasion.
