Judges’ restoration not under consideration: Musharraf

Islamabad : President Pervez Musharraf has emphasized that no suggestions for restoration of the judges were under consideration as the judges currently performing their responsibilities “are respectable”.

A close aide of Musharraf has said that neither did Musharraf send any message to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari nor any suggestion in this regard was under consideration, Online news agency reported Friday.

The president, strongly refuting media reports as “fabricated, concocted and unfounded”, said that without the constitutional amendments approved in parliament with two-third majority no judge could be restored, said the aide.

The government would avoid adopting any unconstitutional step, he added.

Earlier, it was reported that Musharraf was considering seriously restoring the deposed judges provided they do not hear cases against him.

The close aide quoting Musharraf said that he (Musharraf) respected the mandate given by the people in recently held general elections and no obstacles would be created for the party, which showed majority in the way of the formation of the government

The president said the session of the National Assembly would be convened after the issuing of the notification of the successful candidates by the Election Commission of Pakistan and no delay is being stipulated, the aide said.

The president has clarified that he wants real democracy in the country and power be transferred to majority party in a peaceful manner.

Meanwhile prominent law expert retired Justice Sharif Uddin Pirzada Friday met Musharraf.

Well-placed sources told Online that the meeting lasted for quite a while in which host of issues pertaining to higher judiciary came under discussion.

Justice Sharif Uddin Pirzada gave a detailed briefing to Musharraf regarding various options.

During the meeting, Musharraf made it clear that no one would be allowed to de-rail democratic process in country.

He further said the party having maximum majority would be allowed to form its government adding transfer of power will be completed by mid of March.

Former law minister S.M. Zafar, Wasim Sajjad and Auditor General of Pakistan Malik Qayyum were also present during the meeting.
