Continued strikes and demonstrations in southern Terai plains have worsened the human rights situation, the NHRC said.

The rights watchdog said strikes have harmed the environment of education and caused a negative impact on children preparing for their school-leaving certificate (SLC) examinations in the region.

The bomb attacks on schools and houses of political leaders and election officials are inhuman, the NHRC said.

It asked the agitating groups to make their demonstrations peaceful and allow children to enjoy their right to education by not forcing the schools to close.

The strike was withdrawn Thursday evening after the government and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) signed an eight-point deal to address the demands raised by agitating groups.
