Suicide bomber kills 20, wounded 50 in Swat

Swat : At least 20 persons were killed and more than 50 wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a funeral procession of slain DSP Lakki Marwat, Javed Iqbal at Government High School No-2 Mingora on Friday night, police and hospital sources said.The District Hospital Saidu Sharif has received 20 bodies while more than 50 persons majority of whom in precarious conditions are being treated, an official of Saidu Shairf’s hospital said. He said there is possibility that the death toll may raise further.

The dead identified are SHO Mingora Habib Zaman, Sub Inspector, Muhammad Rehman and Naib Nazim of Union Council Malook Abad, Habibullah Khan.

The deadly explosion occurred when a smartly turned out’s police contingent was presenting a Guard of Honour to the coffin late police officer who were killed along with three others policemen in bomb explosion in Lakki Mawart on Friday morning. However, the Interior Ministry confirmed the death of five persons and wounded 40.

Local whiteness said that high-ranking police officers and constables in large number were attending the funeral of their colleague and were staying there

as mark of respect to see the last rituals of the deceased when the bomber detonated himself. The flesh of the bodies was littered in the school lawn as several bodies were behind of identification.

The injured are crying due to severe wounds as there is report of shortage of doctors and medicines in Saidu Sharif hospital. People are shifting their wounded relatives to private hospital due to lack of doctors and shortage of medicines, he added.

Meanwhile, emergency has been declared in hospitals of Swat. The sound of explosion was heard in long distance, which terrorized the local people in the

troubled district of Malakand Division.

More than 1000 people were attending the funeral. Electricity has been suspended in the area and the sound of firing was heard. The doctors appealed to people for donation of blood.
