Tikrit : An Iraqi police officer was killed and six of his policemen were wounded in clashes with al-Qaida militants in Salahudin province in north of Baghdad on Tuesday, a provincial police source said.

“An Iraqi Interior Ministry commando force and a police force of Salahudin province jointly fought al-Qaida in Iraq fighters near the Tal al-Dahab village near the town of Balad, some 80 km north of Baghdad,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The clashes resulted in the killing of a police officer and the wounding of six others, including another officer, along with the damaging of five police vehicles, the source said.

The countrymen in the village frequently teamed up with the Iraqi security forces in fighting the al-Qaida militants who control the rural area around the village, he said.

In separate incident, al-Qaida militants stormed a house in a small village near the town of Duluiyah, 90 km north of Baghdad, killing a man and kidnapping his father and two of his brothers, the source said.

The al-Qaida militants also seized the family tractor and several vehicles from the nearby houses in the village.
