No members of Indian community being attacked in Kenya violence: official

NEW DELHI, Jan 2 (KUNA) — India Thursday dismissed reports that members of the Indian community are being attacked in the ongoing post-poll violence in the East African nation of Kenya.

“There are no reports of any person of Indian origin having been subjected to violence or physically harmed,” spokesman of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Navtej Sarna told reporters here tonight.

“However, there have been reports of looting of shops and commercial facilities belonging to the Indian community,” he added. “It is important to note that the violence is not targeting the Asian community or thousands of Indian origin specifically. Indian High Commissioner in Kenya P S Randhawa has been actively watching the situation in the east African country,” Sarna said. Scores of people have been killed in the ongoing post-poll violence in Kenya.
