Indian PM to visit China from Jan 13-15 to consolidate bilateral ties

NEW DELHI, Jan 3 (KUNA) — Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will pay a three-day official visit to neighbouring China from January 13-15 to deepen bilateral political and economic ties.

“At the invitation of Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the Peoples Republic of China, Dr. Manmohan Singh will pay an official visit to the Peoples Republic of China,” an Indian External Affairs Ministry release said here Thursday.

“During his visit, the Prime Minister will hold officials talks with Premier Wen Jiabao and will have separate meetings with Hu Jintao, President of the Peoples Republic of China and Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress of the Peoples Republic of China, ” the Ministry said. The last visit by an Indian Prime Minister to China was in 2003 by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

This visit is a part of the high level exchanges between India and China in recent years including those by Premier Wen Jiabao to India in April 2005 and President Hu Jintao to India in November 2006.
