Kashmir’s multi-crore Institute of Traumatology taking shape

CM reviews AIIMS level up-gradation of Jammu, Srinagar medical colleges

Jammu : Kashmir will soon have its first Institute of Traumatology to be set up at a cost of Rs. 120 crore. The design of the prestigious project was presented to the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad at a high level meeting here today who asked for certain changes to protect the old chinars in the upcoming complex site at Shireen Bagh in the summer capital and allow greater space for visitors to the hospital.

The proposed 200-bed Institute is a part of up-gradation programme for the two medical college hospitals at Srinagar and Jammu to the AIIMS level.

The Chief Minister asked the consultants and project execution agency to make suitable changes in the design so that sufficient open space is available in the complex and the grand Chinars standing in the premises are protected. He said this would add to the aesthetics and over all ambience of the hospital complex.

The Chief Minister also took stock of the construction work on the service block of the Jammu Medical College Hospital taken up recently. Azad asked for making suitable arrangements for bio-medical waste management in both the hospitals as also heating and cooling systems in the two hospitals. He issued instructions to identify suitable land in Srinagar and Jammu for setting up two bio-medical waste management plants to serve as a common facility for all hospitals in the twin capital cities.

The Chief Minister announced adding five beds in the ICU in Jammu Medical College Hospital along with ventilators for increased patient care. The meeting was informed that the up-gradation of the Jammu Medical College Hospital would be completed within 18 months. In case of Srinagar the project would be completed in 20 months, given lesser working period available there in the face of harsh winter. Each project would cost Rs. 120 crore.

Today’s meeting was attended by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mangat Ram Sharma, Chief Secretary, B. R. Kundal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Anil Goswami, Principal Secretary, General Administration, K. A. Ganai, Secretary Health and Medical Education, K. B. Jandial, Principals of Government Medical Colleges, Srinagar and Jammu and senior engineers of CPWD.
