Centre clears Rs.39.7-mn tourist scheme for Punjab

New Delhi : The central government Friday sanctioned Rs.39.7 million for a scheme to make Hoshiarpur town in Punjab a tourist destination centre.

Tourism Minister Ambika Soni released an amount of Rs.31.8 million as the first instalment so that the state government could start the work under the Integrated Development of Tourist Circuit Scheme, a statement released here said.

The state government had proposed the idea for the promotion of tourism in the oldest district of the state that houses many forts, museums and famous temples of Mansa Devi and Kali.

Various temples and forts will be connected and upgraded to attract more tourists to the place, the release said.
