Srinagar : There have been no cases of custodial killings in Jammu and Kashmir during 2007, according to Kuldeep Khoda, the state Director General of Police (DGP).
Speaking on a current affairs radio programme here Friday, DGP Khoda said the gap between the common man and the police force was gradually narrowing down.
“It is a matter of satisfaction that the perceived gap between the common man and the police in the state has gradually narrowed down,” he said.
“It is because of the close co-operation between the civilians and the police that inconvenience caused to the general public during anti-militancy operations has been minimized now,” the police chief said.
In a significant development, the DGP said orders had been issued to ensure that all vehicles used by security forces have a registration plate.
“We have issued instructions so that no vehicles of the police or other security forces ply on the road without displaying proper registration plates,” Khoda said.
In the past years, complaints of hit and run cases or abductions of civilians by armed men using vehicles without registration plates had become common here.
