Rome : The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced the start of the process to provide necessary emergency food aid for more than one million displaced Iraqis inside Iraq and in the Syrian lands to confront the crisis caused by the ongoing violence.
The programme said in a statement Thursday distributed from its headquarters here that the humanitarian operation will cost USD 126 million and will continue until the month of December of the current year.
It will include the distribution of food to 750,000 displaced Iraqis in Iraq in addition to 360,000 who poured into Syria.
The programme pointed out that it was facing growing humanitarian crises as a result of the continued violence in Iraq leading to the increasing number of displaced persons making the WFP unable to meet their food needs, a matter which requires further assistance.
