King approves Northern Areas expansion of Holy Mosque in Makkah

Riyadh : The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has approved the implementation of the expansion project at the northern areas of the Holy Mosque of Makkah.

This was announced by minister of municipal and rural affairs Prince Miteb bin Abdulaziz, who is also the head of the development commission of Makkah, Madinah and the Holy Places.

In a statement to The Saudi Press Agency (SPA), he said this expansion includes addition of northern areas to the Haram with a depth of about 380 meters, tunnels for pedestrians and a service station.

He noted that in line with the Royal approval the concerned authorities will start expropriation of buildings in the northern and north-western areas.

He added that the technical teams assigned to implement the project will resume their works to implement the project on the scheduled time.
