The arrested were identified as Balarooban, 22, and Nallathambi Jayaseelan, 25, from Sri Lanka’s Tamil-dominated northern district of Jaffna.

The two were picked up Saturday afternoon soon after they checked into a lodge, Umesh Shet, the inspector of the Bunder (Mangalore Port) police station, said over telephone.

“The two had come to Mangalore about 15 days back too. We had a tip-off about their arrival in Mangalore Saturday.

“We recovered 11 credit cards of various banks, a fake passport got from Chennai and gold jewellery worth Rs.300,000,” he said.

The police official said the two had given the name of their contact person in Bangalore and interrogation was on to get more details on him and about the purpose of their second visit to Mangalore in two weeks.

Asked whether the Bangalore police were alerted to trace the contact person, he said: “We will, as soon as we get more details.”
