The Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project is one of the most important economic projects of the region, and it would bring extensive benefits for the three countries, Shakeri was quoted as saying.

The Iranian envoy described the measures taken by Pakistan and Iran as indications of their firm will for the execution of the project.

He said that his country had started developing the pipeline from its gas resources up to the Pakistani borders.

Shakeri also expressed hope that India would too join the project that would be pursued trilaterally.

The diplomat’s comments come two days after Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki held talks on the pipeline project with Pakistani officials during his brief visit to Islamabad Friday.
