Tehran : Iran was expelling a German diplomat for “undiplomatic activities,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini told reporters during his weekly briefing on Sunday.
“The relevant (Iranian) authorities recognized that this diplomat was engaging in undiplomatic activities and should leave the Islamic Republic immediately,” Hosseini said.
But he did not say if the German diplomat had already left Iran and did not give any additional information.
A German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said late Saturday that she could only “confirm that a German diplomat has left Iran,” but declined to elaborate.
The German weekly Der Spiegel reported last month that Germany expelled an Iranian diplomat posted to Berlin who had contacted a specialist firm in Bavaria, apparently trying to obtain a component that could be used in the uranium enrichment process.
