New Delhi : Indian skipper Anil Kumble is now just one wicket short of becoming only the third bowler in the world to take 600 Test wickets. Kumble, who had figures of four for 148, now has 599 wickets.
Kumble, the highest wicket taker in the ongoing series with 15 wickets at 29.33 runs apiece, also became the first Indian bowler to have claimed 20 wickets (ave.32.95) in three Tests at SCG.
Kumble (599 wickets at 28.67 runs apiece) needs one more wicket to join the only two members of 600-plus wicket-takers in Test Cricket – Muttiah Muralitharan (723) and Shane Warne (708).
Interestingly, Kumble (45 not out) posted his highest Test score against Australia, surpassing his 39 at Bangalore in March 1998.
