Shah Alam : Asian youths are capable of achieving the mission of creating `One Asia’ to unite all the Asian countries into one large family grouping, thus turning the continent into one of the world’s major powers, said Asian Youth Council president Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.
Asian youths had the potentials to become agents of change in the era of globalisation especially in ensuring that wealth and prosperity, peace and political stability were shared together, said Dr Mohd Khir, who is also Malaysia’s Selangor state chief minister.
“If `One Euro’ could be achieved within a period of 18 years, I believe `One Asia’ can also be realised. Imagine if we can build `One Asia’, we can trade using a single currency, our economy will be strong and diplomatic relations between all the Asian countries will also be good,” he said.
He said this at a dinner in conjunction with the Malindo Dialogue 2008: Malaysian-Indonesian Youths, here Sunday night.
As such, he said, Malaysian and Indonesian youths should become examples for other Asian youths especially in ensuring good relations between the youth organisations were maintained and improved through various joint efforts in all aspects.
He urged that the three-day Malindo Dialogue beginning Sunday be used as a medium to understand differences and appreciate similarities in all aspects including culture, religion and faiths between the two neighbouring countries.
