Tripathi, former Director General of Police, is a 1963 batch officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre.

The union government Jan 3 imposed president’s rule in Nagaland, keeping the state assembly in suspended animation following political uncertainty triggered by a controversial no-confidence vote.

President Pratibha Patil gave her assent to the recommendation by the central cabinet to dismiss the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government, two months before it was due to complete its five-year term.

State chief minister Neiphiu Rio survived a controversial no-confidence motion in the assembly Dec 13, 2007. The motion was defeated 23 to 19 in the 60-member house after the speaker barred three independents from taking part in the voting and held that the votes of nine dissident Nagaland People’s Front members were invalid.
